The Mumbai Metro project was conceptualized to reduce traffic congestion and reduce the burden on the existing suburban railway system, which transports millions of passengers daily but is severely overcrowded. The vision is to create a network of corridors connecting the Western, Central, and Harbor suburbs with the island city.
