The group billed as "The Gardeners" features Valerie Simpson, Tammi Terrell, and The Andantes, providing a soulful, gospel-tinged cushion for the mostly instrumental tracks. But the MVP of the session might just be guitarist Eric Gale, whose bluesy, understated playing on the title track and throughout the record adds the necessary grit to balance Quincy’s sophisticated polish.
