Released over a decade after the fourth installment, Last Blood finds John Rambo living a quiet, secluded life on a horse ranch in Arizona. He has finally found a semblance of family with his friend Maria and her granddaughter, Gabrielle. However, when Gabrielle disappears into Mexico to find her biological father, Rambo is forced out of retirement to navigate a landscape of human trafficking and cartel violence. The film transitions from a slow-burn character study into a hyper-violent, home-defense spectacle that mirrors the traps and tactics of the original First Blood.
