Not all bad dreams are nightmares worth taking. A child’s dream of a monster under the bed is often self-limiting — the dreamer will wake, cry, and forget. The nightmares we seek are the chronic ones: the recurring dream of the locked door that leads nowhere, the silent figure standing at the foot of the bed every third night, the endless labyrinth of identical hospital corridors.
