"The Grudge 2020" is an American horror film directed by Corin Hardy and written by David J. Burke and Mike Flanagan. The movie serves as a sequel to the 2004 Japanese horror film "The Grudge", which was itself a remake of the 2002 Japanese film "Ju-On: The Grudge". The movie follows a young nurse named Tess (played by Andrea Riseborough) who moves to Tokyo, Japan to work at a hospital. However, her life takes a dark turn when she encounters a vengeful spirit that has been awakened by a traumatic event.
The film remains polarizing. While some critics praised its bleak atmosphere and cinematography, many fans felt it lacked the iconic "Kayako" and "Toshio" imagery that made the Japanese originals (Ju-On) so terrifying. It swapped the supernatural "fun" of a ghost story for a heavy, depressing look at grief and tragedy.
