Sophie brings home her best friend, Jasmine ("Jazz"). Jazz is the opposite of Sophie—edgy, worldly, and harboring a darkness. She confides in them that her mother’s latest boyfriend is abusive and she has nowhere to go. Feeling a pang of fatherly duty and sympathy, David convinces a reluctant Elena to let Jazz stay in their guest room "just for a few weeks."
