The movie takes place a year after the events of the second film. Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Gloria the hippopotamus, and Melman the giraffe are now stars of a traveling circus in Central Asia. However, their lives are turned upside down when they meet Vitaly, a Russian snow leopard who is also a circus performer. Vitaly convinces the circus's owner, Mr. Kruthers, to let him take over the show.
